If you are heading to our apartment, you might be wondering: where is the best place to park your car for free? You've come to the right place – this article will help you navigate the local parking system and avoid unnecessary fees or fines.

Main tip: Port de Gandia Parking – large, free, and close to the beach

The best parking spot near our apartment is Port de Gandia Parking – large, paved, and completely free parking, located in the port area, on Carrer de la Verge del Carme, just 8–10 minutes walk from the apartment.

Why is it worth it?

  • Free – zero fees all year round

  • A large number of spaces – even in the summer season

  • No time limit for parking

  • Safe – well-lit, near port buildings and port police

The parking does not have barriers, machines, or paid parking zones. You can leave your car there for the whole day, night, or even several days without any charges – it’s an excellent solution for those who want to avoid the stress and costs associated with urban parking zones.

Parking along the streets – understand the colors of the lines

In Gandia (like in most Spanish cities), there is a color-coded parking space marking system. It’s very important to avoid fines and misunderstandings. Here’s what the different colors mean:

🟦 Blue lines – zona azul (PAID ZONE)

  • Paid parking during certain hours (usually Monday to Saturday, 9:00–14:00 and 17:00–20:00)

  • Payment made at parking meters or via mobile app (Telpark or E-Park)

  • Parking time is usually limited to 2 hours

  • At night and on Sundays, parking is free

Note: The blue zone covers part of the streets by the promenade (Paseo Marítim), especially in the summer season.

🟨 Yellow lines – no stopping or parking allowed

  • There is a total parking ban

  • The line can be solid (no stopping) or dashed (no long-term parking)

  • Applies both day and night

  • Often found at intersections, pedestrian crossings, or driveways to garages

Never leave your car by yellow lines – towing can be quick and costly.

🟩 Green lines – reserved zones (for residents or special users)

  • They may indicate spaces for residents, local businesses, hotels, taxis, or loading and unloading

  • In Gandia, they are not very common, but appear near administrative buildings and hotels.

  • Parking is possible only with the appropriate permit

⚪ White lines – public free spaces

  • This is where it’s worth parking

  • No parking meters, time limits, or permits required

  • You can also park overnight

White lines are your ally – look for them especially on the side streets of Gandia and around the port.

When driving to us, it’s worth pinning this location. Be careful, as most streets in this area are one-way. The rule of priority from the right applies ;)

Where else can you park for free?

Besides Port de Gandia Parking, consider the following options:

1. Streets along the port (Carrer de les Illes Balears, Carrer de la Verge del Carme, Carrer d’Alacant)

Many of these streets have white-marked parking spaces and no fees apply there.

2. Streets 2–3 blocks away from the beach

The further from the promenade, the better the chance of finding a free spot. Streets like Carrer de l’Ostau, Carrer de Cullera or Avinguda de la Pau offer free parking in white lines.

3. Near supermarkets outside of opening hours

On Sundays or in the evening, you can use the parking lots at Mercadona, Carrefour Express, or Masymas (just remember that this is an unofficial solution).

What to do if you want to park close to the apartment?

The street Paseo Marítim de Neptú and its surroundings have mostly blue zones – which means paid. If you want to stop briefly at the apartment (e.g., to unload luggage), you can:

  • Stop for a moment at the curb in a place without yellow lines.

  • Leave the car for a few minutes, e.g. at the nearest intersection, with the hazard lights on

  • Ask for help from the apartment owner, who can point out a temporary drop-off spot

Pro tip: mobile parking apps

If you decide to park in the blue zone, it's worth downloading one of the popular apps:

  • Telpark – available in Gandia, covers most Spanish cities

  • E-Park – an alternative, also with remote payment and time extension options

🅿️ Underground parking under Paseo Marítim de Neptú – comfortable, but paid

For those who prefer parking close to the apartment, in the shade and with security, a good solution is the underground parking located directly under the promenade – Paseo Marítim de Neptú.

📍 Entrance:

The entrance to the parking is from the side of Avinguda de la Pau, at the intersection with Carrer del Clot de la Mota, right at the beginning of the promenade. The entrance is well marked, and the barrier and ticket machine are visible from afar: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gDc52p3WAJrx7Sob6

💰 Price list (approximate – high season may vary):

  • First 30 minutes – approx. €1.00

  • Each subsequent hour€1.50–2.00

  • All day (max. 24 h) – approx. €12–15

  • Weekly pass (optional in season): ask at the parking service point

The parking operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is lit, monitored, and equipped with elevators leading directly to our apartment and simultaneously to the promenade.

Advantages:

  • 🚗 Always available spots, even in high season

  • 🌞 Protection from the sun and heat

  • 🔐 Safe – with monitoring and supervision

  • 🏖️ Direct access to the beach – ideal with children and beach luggage

Disadvantages:

  • 💶 Expensive for long-term parking

  • 📶 No possibility of advance booking (usually not needed)

In summary: if you care about convenience and proximity, and the fee doesn't bother you – then the underground parking under Paseo Marítim will be the best choice. However, for guests staying for a week or longer, we recommend free alternatives, such as Parking Port de Gandia.

Remember: in the summer season, it's best to park the car in the morning or late afternoon when the turnover of spots is the highest. After parking – relax on the beach because the most important part is already behind you!
